1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? Gave a talk at a conference; went fresh water SCUBA diving; performed brain surgery on a regular basis...
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't really make resolutions
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Sorta -- a couple girls in my program here at Kent had babies this year
4. Did anyone close to you die? Nope
5. What countries did you visit? Canada
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005? My Masters!
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? April 16th -- my brother got married to a wonderful woman
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? A lot of firsts, academically.
9. What was your biggest failure? I try not to dwell on the negative... I guess I'm not as far along in my research as I'd like to be, but I'm not doing too bad.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? A couple nasty colds
11. What were the best things you bought? Millie (TJ was free, but he would count, too)
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Not sure
13. Whose behavior made you (appalled) and depressed? A couple people in the psych dept.
14. Where did most of your money go? Conferences, Christmas, moving to my new apartment
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Moving to my new apartment & adopting Millie (& later adopting TJ)
16. What song will always remind you of 2005? I have no clue
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. happier or sadder? a little of both ii. thinner or fatter? I feel fatter, but probably the same iii. richer or poorer? about the same -- perpetually poor & will be as long as I'm a grad student
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? exercising, spending time with Eric & friends & family
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Worrying about stupid stuff -- everything seems to be working out fine
20. How did you be spend Christmas? Lots of travelling between my parents' place in Indiana, Eric's apartment in Ann Arbor, & his parents' place in Clarkston, MI
22. Did you fall in love in 2005? Remained in love... :-)
23. How many one-night stands? None
24. What was your favorite TV program? Desperate Housewives & Grey's Anatomy
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Nope
26. What was the best book you read? Who has time to read? I actually got halfway through a John Grissom book, but that's about it
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Garden State soundtrack
28. What did you want and get? Digital camera
29. What did you want and not get? A million dollars! :-)
30. What was your favorite film of this year? Not sure if I have a favorite -- I enjoyed "Munich", "Batman Begins", & "The Constant Gardener"
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I went out to dinner w/ some friends in D.C. & I turned 24
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Perhaps something sparkly for my left ring finger, but all in due time...
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? Comfortable & practical (hey, I work with lab rats all day -- what do you expect?)
34. What kept you sane? Eric, my friendship with Melanie & Faith
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Eh... don't really care
36. What political issue stirred you the most? The stupid Bush administration cutting the budget that funds NIH, NSF, & other institutes that fund research (bastards!)
37. Who did you miss? Eric... my Albion friends, Kelly
38. Who was the best new person you met? Melanie, Faith, & Jessica (I really got to know them this year & I'm glad I did!)
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005. I've learned it before, but it was reinforced: shit happens, & ya just gotta learn to deal
