Much better...
Mood:
a-ok
Now Playing: Evening news
Things are much much better since my last post. We had a bit of a chat about our frustrations in the lab & we've got an understanding now between us, so I think things are going to get better in the lab (for a little while, at least).
As for the study, this has been the longest past few days of my life! On Monday, I spent 13 hrs at school, with about 10 of that spent in the lab! Yesterday was a little better -- I got out of there at about 7pm. Today went even faster, & I got out of the lab around 6pm. I'm hoping that this trend will continue. The younger rats, especially, seem to be catching on to the whole "push the levers for reinforcement" concept, so we don't have to spend too much time shaping them in the box. The older rats are a bit more difficult, but they're making progress. A very good point was brought up in the lab today -- the old rats have been sitting around so long that they aren't used to moving around as much as our task requires. I kinda feel bad for the rats, though, especially the experimental group. We're doing a drug study, so they're receiving daily injections -- the experimental group is getting atropine while the control group is just getting saline. Atropine, though, hurts like hell, so I don't blame them for freaking out whenever I pick them up.
Well, I'm going to take advantage of my early evening and relax a bit.
Till next time...

So frustrated...
Mood:
irritated
Now Playing: Emeril Live
I wish I could be happy in my lab. Actually, I think I could be if it weren't for one reason, & most of you know what that reason is. For some reason, she can't find anything nice or positive to say when it comes to lab stuff. She always has to be negative & pessimistic about EVERYTHING, & she has to criticize EVERYTHING. And the sigh... let's not forget the "everything in the world is wrong" sigh. I hate the sigh most of all, & it just clicks me into my curt, don't-want-to-be-here-anymore mood. I'm just sick of it all. I'm sick of being stuck working w/ her. I can't wait until she's finally done & I don't have to deal with her anymore.
I just hate how much this bothers me. It got to the point today where I just had to leave, so I did -- she criticized me for doing the same thing that she did earlier in the afternoon! One of these days I know I'm going to snap... until then, I'll keep taking my little nerve-calming walks...

Not too far off... I'm not as liberal as the quiz claims (yes, I've been known to vote for the occasional conservative candidate). And the description of my "date match" isn't too far off -- those are some of the qualities I see in Eric, so there must be something right here! haha

In a mood...
Mood:
down
Now Playing: The Daily Show
I'm in a mood today... not sure what it is, but it basically feels like I'm in a funk. I don't know if it's because I didn't get as much sleep as I should've last night, or the fact that I just spent about 13 hours at school, or a combination of those two. This is one of those moods where little things get to me & irritate me, too, which isn't exactly a good thing. But all in all, I'm just not happy with how things are right now in my life. I'm sick of my apartment & can't wait to move, but I can't until the middle of August. I'm getting sick of my classes this semester, but at least those will be done in a month. I had a frustrating day in the lab today, too. I did three surgeries & it didn't seem like they really went that well. I mean, none of the rats died on me, but it just didn't feel like the surgeries went as smoothly as they have before. Oh well, I've got three more to do tomorrow, so hopefully those will go better (& quicker -- I really need to get my surgery time down... I'm hoping to get down to about 30-40 minutes, & right now I'm averaging about an hour per surgery). And to top this off, I'm really missing Eric. He's coming to visit me for a few days starting on Wednesday, but it's just not soon enough. I could definitely use some cuddle time right now. I can't wait till we're both done w/ grad school & can finally be together again... 3 more years, 3 more years...
Well, I think it's about time I got ready for bed... gotta get up early & do some more surgeries... *sigh*

Mary Kay -- it's the new black!
Mood:
lazy
Now Playing: Letterman
So apparently all the cool kids are becoming Mary Kay consultants. Seeing as how I'm always at least 1 trend behind everyone else, I'll just be a consumer for the time being. My friend Jody recently became a consultant, & I just received an email f/ my friend Jayme wanting to be my personal consultant. What to do? (Jody, if you're reading this, I LOVE the Satin Hands set -- I'm really starting to notice a difference! Has the Satin Lips set come in yet?).
In other news, I've successfully performed four brain surgeries this week all on my own, & I'm planning on doing another two tomorrow. Now we'll have to see if I actually hit the hypothalamus...
I've also started looking for a new apartment. I'm locked into my current lease until mid-August, but I have to decide by the end of April if I want to stay in my current apartment or not (which I'm not really excited about...). I've found a couple promising places, one of which I might be sharing a 2-BR with one of my friends who's in my same grad program. We've been hanging out a lot this year & I think we'd be able to live together w/o any problems. I'll keep y'all posted.
Ok, I'd better get ready for bed -- I've got a long day ahead of me tomorrow...

How I Spent My Spring Break
Mood:
lazy
Now Playing: Red Green Show
Wow, what a great week -- but I wish I could have another one!
While I didn't go to the beach for Spring Break (well, I kinda did -- but the majority of my conference in Florida was chilly &/or rainy, except for the day I left, of course!), but I did get to spend some time with the people that mean the most to me: my family and Eric & his family. The first day of spring break began with lunch out with my parents, my brother Matt, & his fiance Holly at the restaurant where we'll be having the rehearsal dinner, then Mom & I went antiquing. Monday was spent relaxing -- something I haven't been able to do in a loooong time. Tuesday was fun -- Mom & I went shopping with Holly. She is such a sweetheart & SO much fun to be around. Matt has certainly found a real gem! On Wednesday I headed up to Michigan to spend the rest of the week with Eric. On Thursday we went on a date (yay!) -- sushi for lunch & then we saw "Sideways". Thursday evening was a much needed 'girls night' w/ some of my favorite KD sisters f/ Albion. Eric & I went shopping on Friday for a wedding gift for Matt & Holly. On Saturday Eric's sister came home & we had a fabulous Easter dinner with his parents, sister, & Aunt Ann. All of us gals spent some time gabbing after dinner while Eric & his dad watched the basketball games. And then today we went to church (standing room only!) & had a HUGE brunch afterwards (yum yum!). Then I headed back to Kent this afternoon to get ready for another week of classes.
Here's something fun & random -- I received an email from my old college roommate that I hadn't heard from in nearly a year! For those of you who know Suz, she's back up in the U.P. & she's doing well. :-)
Well, I'd better get my stuff unpacked & get things organized around here.
Till next time...
<3, Amber :-)

 | You scored as Christianity. Your views are most similar to those of Christianity. Do more research on Christianity and possibly consider being baptized and accepting Jesus, if you aren't already Christian.
Christianity is the second of the Abrahamic faiths; it follows Judaism and is followed by Islam. It differs in its belief of Jesus, as not a prophet nor historical figure, but as God in human form. The Holy Trinity is the concept that God takes three forms: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Ghost (sometimes called Holy Spirit). Jesus taught the idea of instead of seeking revenge, one should love his or her neighbors and enemies. Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross to save humankind and forgive people's sins.
